Looks like I am more useless at geocaching than I thought.

Noticed the cache had been replaced, thanks a lot DD.

Today I had a free day with hubby away, so I've walked from home to Rippon Tor. I was so sure that I would find the cache this time. But no. I looked for about 45 minutes, videoed under the stones, took pictures, reached in as far as I could. My arm shows the scratches to proof.

But just no luck. Back onto the watch list and return visit list.

After some commitments in the morning, we decided to head out for a afternoon mooch around Ashburton, which for me has never been the same since the excellent Dartmoor second hand book shop and Trailventure outdoor store were open! Anyway, after tea and cake in Taylor’s it was up to the high moors in the early evening sun for a wander around Rippon Tor. After trying for a letterbox, I returned to this particular outcrop to squeeze and wriggle in all the clefts of the rocks, only to go back to my first crevice and look deeper, ahh. Thanks Dave for replacing, all in good order!

Today I was visiting Rippon Tor as I was hosting an event at the top.  Afterwards a few of us went to look for some unfound caches in the area before heading off the moor.  This was one of them for me, as I had visited the first stage in March 2017.  Before returning to the car, this was the penultimate cache for me, and once at GZ the container was quickly spotted by Ed-Don.  The paperwork was carried out and the container popped back in its hide.

After attending an event at Rippon Tor I decided to try and clear this part of Dartmoor. I had found the first stage of this one ages ago and only now have I been coming up the hill to complete the final. Chudleigh Traveller and I made light work of this cache but neither of us noted the bonus info. TFTC

This was sadly the last cache Amberel and I was to find today.  Letterbox caches are so much easier to find, least ways when your looking for geocaches! Having put back the expected said letterbox we continued searching until eventually we found what we were looking for.  We found so many stamps among the logs, at least this find was from genuine cachers ????

A DNF after a long search on my last visit over a year ago, when I had found a pink letter box set by a youngster from out of the area in the location I thought the cache most likely would be, but never found the cache itself.

And for a long time today I feared it would be another DNF. First I showed dizzygirl where I had looked last time. The letterbox wasn't there any more, but there was a car aerial there! And the cache still wasn't there, of course, but that wasn't a surprise.

On both occasions my GPSr was pointing me very much to the base of the outcrop, but we followed the hint and climbed up to the top, where a brief search revealed the same letterbox I had found before, but in a different location, one that matched the opencache hint exactly!

So we carried on looking, and were not far from admitting defeat again when dizzygirl shouted that she had got at just the right angle to have spotted what we were looking for. It was only a foot away from the pink letterbox, but whereas the letterbox was approached from on top, the cache had to be approached from the side!

We opened it up, expecting to find a sparsely populated log book since it had not been found for so long, only to find it crammed with 30 or so letterbox stamps! But it was very clearly marked up as the opencache smile.

Letterbox confusion has pretty much been the order of the day for us, I've found quite a few before, but today I think we have found more letterboxes by accident than geocaches on purpose!

Very glad to have nailed this one at last smile.

Thanks for the cache,

Rgds, Andy

The second of my caches I checked on today.  I couldn't remember exactly where this was hidden but it was never intended to be difficult as it was part of a series originally intended to be completed during one morning.  However, I couldn't immediately spot it in the obvious place, but then caught sight of it up through the rocks from below.  Cache in excellent condition but needs to be found from above, where it is just tucked between two rocks and slid under one of them.

A long, long, but fruitless search here. I did find a large and very recent letterbox (October 2016), with a bright pink lid, exactly at the co-ords. I've taken a photo of the location to show the c/o.

Found after reading the coords some time ago on a bike ride. Today, feet on floor, I did a nice big circle of Blackslade Mire which included Rippon Tor and my feet brought me here.

Cache in good condition, all as it should be. Did locate a very wet and ruined letterbox next to it, which I removed and logged on dartmoorletterboxing.org as it was now rubbish. (No stamp, a few sheets of very soggy paper)

Panicked a little at the starting coords and then it all became clear, Lovely walk up to GZ to find this cache in good order. Many thanks DD

Making an effort to complete this Challenge during this visit to Dartmoor now that we've broken into Opencaching.

Found without too much difficulty on a cloudy but dry afternoon.

Apologies for the extremely late log - making a determined effort to rectify our lax logging on Opencaches, using geocache logs from our aging Garmin and photographs from our archives if available.

TFTC.

As we were up this way we thought we would collect this one - Ian found this one I was not in the right spot - although it did look like an obvious spot. Nice to be up this way again with the find views. Tftc.

[:D] FTF [:D] After deciding to attempt the 2016 Seven Tors Challenge once we had seen in the New Year, we left North Devon at about 1am, minus youngest DS, to get a few hours sleep (4 approx.) before setting off on this adventure. As this tor was the closest to home we began here, finding the cache at 08.50hrs. Our first open cache of 2016! TFTC
