Description EN

There is a sinister pathway that winds it's sombre way across the Northern wastes of Dartmoor, it is known as "The Way of the Dead",  the "Corpse Way"  or the "Lych Way"

In the days when every person was expected to attend their Church for services and Burrials  ( AD1200 ), a lot of the Northern Moor came into the parish of Lydford and this is where the parish church was located.  Therefore Coffins had to be carried across the moor, and could involve a trudge of up to 12 miles and in bad weather this could increase to roughly 17 miles.

This is a "Letterbox Hybrid "  cache and was placed on the spur of the moment and we didn't have time to put any swaps in the box,  ( 1.1lt clip lock box ) but feel free to put any in when you get there.  It is a joint placement with a well known letterboxer so you will not be the FTF in the book when you get there.  Please DO NOT TAKE the rubber stamp, it is not a swap item.

PLEASE  BEWARE  -  the cache is within the Merrivale Firing Range, so check the range firing notice on   -   www.dartmoor-ranges.co.uk

DO NOT enter on firing days or if you see the red flags flying from the range poles.   DO NOT touch or pick up any unidentifed metal objects that may be lying on the ground.
