Kings Wood covers some 147 1/2 acres and is on relatively flat ground. May is one of the best months to visit Kings Wood when the ground is covered with Bluebells. There is also a colony of deer in the woods so watch out for them and you may be lucky and spot one or two - I've seen them on a couple of occasions. The wood is very popular with dog walkers so stealth may be required, although this cache is off the beaten track a little.
GPS coverage is patchy, especially as this is near some evergreens which are always providing leaf cover overhead. I've taken several readings on a bright clear day and picked something in the middle. Use your eyes, brain and Geosense too.
There are many footpaths into the woods with ample on-street parking in residential areas. Paths in the woods are fairly level and suitable for children but not for buggies. Be aware that there is a natural pond in the middle of the woods so please keep track of all small children.
There is a set of Geocaching.com caches in the woods too - I'm setting Opencaches here as there are many more places for caches in this wood and I didn't want to ruin my carefully planned X on the geocaching.com map! The Opencaches will not be cross listed.
