This cache is one of a series of ten caches set in Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve. Three are on easy flat paths, two on moderately steep paths and the remaining five are on mountain paths which will require appropriate footwear and clothing. Beinn Eighe was Britain’s first nature reserve and has many interesting natural and geological features. The visitor’s centre is open from Easter to October but, if closed, there is a lot of information at the notice boards including various booklets describing the different trails.
Conservation Cairn is the summit of the mountain trail at about 550 meters. The circular walk is about 6.5 km long and requires three or four hours to complete and starts from the car park at Coille na Glas-Leitire. The track is quite steep with lots of steps and is quite strenuous. The track can be slippery in winter if there is any ice or snow on it so take care and be prepared. The cache lies about 85 metres to the south of the cairn hidden in an outcrop which is just above a wetter area of ground.
It is possible to descend from here to Shelter cache and the other Pony track caches but you will then have to walk 3 km along the road to return to you starting place
