Cautley Spout is the highest cascade waterfall in England, with a total drop of 198 metres. You need to climb to the top of the well-defined track to find this cache, then a short departure from the path towards the top of the fall takes you to the cache. The climb is steep, but worth it for the views. On the way up from convenient parking just north of the Cross Keys Temperance Inn, you pass the remains of an Iron Age settlement, though there's not much to see of the remains without digging. Your walk can continue onward to The Calf (the highest point of the Howgills), or over to Bowderdale, or you can return the same way, or round the top of the crag, or even abseil down the fall if you have appropriate equipment because bolts are provided near to the cache.
I made a mistake in placing this cache because, although it is a steep walk of about 0.2 miles from my Cautley Spout cache (GC5Y2XW), and about 0.1 miles as the crow flies, it is below the strict minimum distance when projected to the reference geoid at sea level. Groundspeak make no allowance for real terrain distances, so this cache can't be listed on Geocaching.com.
