Beschrijving EN

Decimus Burton (30 September 1800 – 14 December 1881) was one of the foremost English architects of the 19th century. He was a leading exponent of the Greek revival, Georgian and Regency styles.

His works include Hyde Park, London, including Gate/Screen at Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch, London Zoo, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the clubhouse of the Athenaeum Club, London, Regent's Park, London, including Cornwall Terrace, Chester Terrace, and the villas of the Inner Circle (including his own residence, The Holme), Green Park, London, Carlton House Terrace, and the layout and architecture of the seaside towns of Fleetwood and St Leonards-on-Sea and in this case, Tunbridge Wells.

He also worked on Buckingham Palace, where he was responsible for the removal of Nash's Marble Arch facing the building to its present site and the subsequent enclosure of the forecourt.

In the case of Tunbridge Wells, the cache is located at one of Decimus Burton’s works, Calverley Park Crescent, which was built around 1833. Opposite the cache you will see the entrance arch to the Calverley Estate and a plaque on the inside wall dedicated to the architect.

Due to the high muggle traffic in the area, this is a nano cache. Please be stealthy when finding and bring your own writing implement. Should the cache be muggled, you can still make the claim, but you must add a photo to your log of yourself or your GPS in front of the arch.
