After I've failed to find this one yesterday as I was drawn to the cave I had more luck today. Mental note: More difficult is not always it.

My first opencache on Dartmoor. Many more to find. TFTC

We were out this way today with the hoards - but here it was quiet! We were able to find quickly and return in the spot we found it. Tftc

Found after a brief search during a late afternoon walk of just under 4 miles.

Now to get back to Swallerton Gate where Mrs Bb is patiently waiting in the car.

Apologies for the very late log - making a determined effort to rectify our lax logging on Opencaches.

TFTC.

Made really hard work in reaching this one, straight line walking didn't prove a good idea- I had no idea the hillside was so wet. Cache was a pretty difficult one, not helped by the freezing winds. Great hide location - stunning position thank you again.

I made a special trip to replace this cache where it should have been and to retrieve Andy's walking pole. I can't imagine how this ended up where it did, or why it was found out in the open.  Anyway, it is back where it should be so please do replace exactly as found.  My thanks to both Andy and the WW's for their helpful photos of where they had left the cache after hiding it nicely out of sight.

Amberel and I had a task to do and set about it with gusto we did. I had by now become quite accomplished on matching (spoiler) photos to caches as the sheer number of letterbox ones I stumbled upon was so very frustrating, simply because there were literally so many of them.  Anyhoo, I digress. We arrived, and scoured until we found the cache, but we failed in locating the original hideyhole.  So the only thing for it was to rehide and send photos once again to the co..

having spent so long here we were anxious to be on our way, sadly I’m not used to carrying a walking pole and so, it wasn’t until much later that’s I realised I had left it behind..  oops. If anyone spots it please return it to Dartmoor Dave.  It was one of many things I left behind on this trip as it transpired... hehe.

The c/o knew we were visiting today and requested that we move the cache back to the original location - but while we found the cache OK, close to the listed co-ords, we couldn't match up the spoiler photo he provided. The cache was a bit exposed where it was so we shifted it about 2 feet into a more sheltered hole and sent a photo to the c/o. Apologies that we couldn't locate the right spot!

We spent some time here so put down our rucksacks and walking poles as we searched, and some time later found we were one walking pole short. If anyone else visits and spots the pole (it's a red and black, 3 section Black Diamond pole) maybe they could pass it on to Dartmoor Dave, and in due course it is sure to get back to me smile.

Thanks for the cache,

Rgds, Andy

Well this proved a problem,  and as eventually I found it lying on the ground upside down, in an area that didn't seem to fit hint, it is possible it's not where it should be . Have emailed CO with a photo of the area that it is in and put back to.

Attempted this from the Haytor side so a lot easier than walking over from Hound Tor. Weather came in again as we set off and the wind picked up to force 5 with hailstones like golf balls... Then the sun came back out and it was a very pleasant stroll over to the cache site. Took a little longer to find this one but all was well and we signed up the logbook and retrieved the numbers. Storm hit again on the way back so we scirted safely through the Haytor Quarry and the sheltered side of the hill back to the car. Another great cache and #2 ticked off.

Once we had visited the cache at Hound Tor, we continued our walk to Smallacombe Rocks.  This meant walking down that very steep hill into the valley, crossing that rather nice bridge and meandering through some of that boggy stuff.  Then we ascended up the hill towards the Tor and a bit of huffing and puffing along the way for good measure.  It wasn't too long before we arrived at GZ, and we began searching, thankfully quite quickly heartradio spotted the container, nicely tucked away.  A blank log was presented to us which was duly signed.  Walking back up that very steep hill to Hound Tor was a bit tough at times, but none the less an enjoyable walk.

Found in the company of The Caching Corgis and Evil Beagles.  Weren't even totally sure earlier in the week if we would be attending the event due to Mrs W having the lurgy and the weather that was forecast - however Mrs W was awake first and busy looking to see where the new caches were.  Decision was made that we were going and were going after them - after having a leisurely breakfast first. A pleasant drive down the A38 and onto the moor in in the sunshine - had we missed a day out - Dave - having ordered sunshine??? Arrived at the parking and Mrs W dropped Mr W and eldest Evil Beagle off with promises to meet them at Hound Tor.  A trifle wet underfoot due to the excess rain of the last few days but we weren't to be put off.  On approach towards GZ we met a man with a shovel - apparently clearing culverts - we weren't convinced.  Cache was a quick find - not first in the log but then w didn't expect to be.

Set out this morning with the intention of completing this series, unfortunately whilst trying to retrieve the cache (crawling definitely required) I managed to break the touchscreen on my garmin, which ended the days caching at the first hurdle. The cache was so far back that despite my best efforts it was impossible to reach. I had to resort to using a stick to hook it into reach.
Thanks for the cache.
Hopefully will be back to finish the series.

We made the decision to continue on here from the Hound Tor cache, give ourselves a bit of a New Year's Day workout and all that... start as you mean to go on (I have no intention of continuing this much exercise every day haha!) Always enjoyable passing over the clapper bridge in the valley. Once in the right place we had a bit of wandering GPS so searched at the wrong level at first, wasn't long before heartradio dashed off again following his phone and we soon heard a voice from between the rocks 'found it!'  laughing We all made our way to the cache to collect the bonus information before moving on back down and up and down again back to the car. The wind really picked up and gave me a run for my money on the walk back up to Hound Tor, at this point I was thinking ahead and doubting my fitness for this challenge but I pushed through! Many thanks!

It was a steep walk down then up again from Hound Tor to this one, so we stopped for a few breathers and eventually puffed up the hill to GZ. At least we've got the hardest walk out of the way first! There were several possible search areas so we each searched somewhere different which fitted the hint, and after a couple of minutes I let forth the cry that I had it! smile
