Had some spare time, so come up and took the view in, and a saw a huge downpour coming over Dartmoor, thankfully it didn't come my way!! Found quickly, still in perfect condition! 

I really enjoyed my first visit to this hill during Storm ERIC.. it was fun to track down this oldie, but it took some time to locate under the trees. However really pleased to find it all in perfect condition. There must of been some chemical reaction going on inside this can.. as when I released the perfect seal after its dormant 9 years, there was a loud sucking noise as the fresh air was drawn into the vacuum. Everthing inside is as if it was placed yesterday. Many thanks for placing this one...

We'd spent the earlier part of the day caching on Dartmoor, near Widecombe. I'd stumbled on this OpenCache's webpage while researching yesterday, and thought it would be a great treat for the Abanazar Sons: the combination of an ammo box plus some evidence of good swag drops! So we worked it in as a detour on our way back towards Exmouth. None of us was disappointed! A great spot: lots of atmosphere and history; good views; complete tranquility, except for the bleating of some nearby lambs; and the boys thoroughly enjoyed finding the ammo can and quality contents. Much trading ensued, and Gribben's poker chip is now pride of place in #1 Son's collection of signature items -- very classy job that, thanks!

The woods were full of bluebells and wild garlic (but not quite in full scent yet). We made our way back through the old settlement and then back to civilisation after our brief step back in time.

We have been up here a few times now and have always enjoyed the visit. Today the path up was a bit muddy but that was because a tractor had been up to the top and had cut the hedgerows down low. The view over Dartmoor was fantastic on the way up and right at the top there were loads of snowdrops at the base of a newly laid hedge.

We went round the fort clockwise and were able to go straight to the cache where the views over the countryside are outstanding. It was a little cold at the top and the wind was very strong but we were quite sheltered amoungst the trees.

We followed the path up into the fort and back down the other side for another good visit to this hillfort.  It is amazing to think that 2000 or so years ago it was a thriving community up here. I wonder what they would make of it if they could come back today?

Visited the hill fort many times in the past. Great spot and an easy find. Took nothing but left a wobbly eye ball!Thanks for my first cache from opencaching.org...really nice to have a walk, get a view and find an ammo can! Thanks very much!

Logging on 4th Jan 2010, having found the cache on 8th Sept. 2009 while it was a TerraCache. This is a copy of my TerraCache log:

Yet again, as I set off at 04:30 for a 2 day caching trip on my motor-bike, I find the weather is less than clement. This morning I find myself enveloped in a very wet mist, and I would end up spending the whole day in mist and cloud. It rarely rained more than the very finest drizzle, but this drizzle didn't let up even for a minute, and the whole world was saturated by it.

As I got to Exeter this occasioned a change of plan. I had intended to cross the middle of Dartmoor today, climbing several tors, and return by a more southerly route through Buckfastleigh and Staverton tomorrow. But one reason for climbing the tors is for the views, and in this cloud I wouldn't see a thing. The forecast for tomorrow is better, so I swapped the days over.

On the revised itinerary, this cache was my first. As mentioned above, it wasn't really raining, but it certainly wasn't not raining either, and the path up the hill was wet and slippery. It was also slightly overgrown, and the slightest brush with any vegetation resulted in a shower of raindrops from the sodden trees and bushes. It didn't take to long to spot the cache, but it suffered from the same problem; tucked away behind a tree, in a slightly awkward to reach spot, where the tree dumped its watery contents all over me whenever I tried to get close enough to reach .

This would have been so much nicer in the dry, though of course that's not in any way a criticism of the cache, it's just our British weather.

"I enjoyed a pleasant walk up the hill on a bright and breezy morning. An interesting location and some excellent views over the beautiful Devon countryside. Tracked down the container without any problems, leaving a poker chip and a pathtag, took nothing.
