Didn't think I would find this one with all the bracken at gz at the moment but after a little look around the cache was found but well buried

Caching around Belstone on part one of a three part visit to Dartmoor. The bike was left on the nearby track and a short walk down to the cache site was undertaken. I may have looked harder if I were wearing trousers and had my walking pole but alas neither were the case today

I teamed up with Mr NSCR to get out on the moors and grab a few caches today. He chose the route and there were a few that I had already done and some which he had recently adopted. We both like an Open cache, so it was a varied day.
We tried every technique known to man but came up empty handed here. Such a shame as it will be the only one left in the area for us

This wasn't a good start to the series with the cache remaining elusive despite a long-winded search, trying both the original and Dartmoor Dave's bearings on the holly.
Eventually had to admit defeat and move on.

I failed dismally on this cache a month ago but came back determined to find it. This time I came armed with a proper sighting compass rather than the compass on my iPhone which is ok, but not accurate enough for letterbox type hints. However, I discovered that the sighting compass didn't put me in the same position as the GPS and I noticed that other had made similar comments, and they all found it relying on their GPS alone. So I ignored the compass and concentrated on the GPS and eventually managed to retrieve the cache which was very well hidden and on the coordinates ! I then used my sighting compass to check the bearings and I made the centre of the holly 38 degrees. With that bearing everything else lined up perfectly. So I have now completed this excellent series which I have thoroughly enjoyed, so TFTC and for the series.

Re-logging a couple of logs that went missing. I had hoped to attempt several of this series today, but my main objective was to place a cache or two near Steeperton Tor and find a few others. Unfortunately I spent a long time here but couldn't find the cache at all. One of the problems was that the bracken was growing strongly everywhere and completely hid most of the likely hides. I also didn't have a sighting compass so eventually decided to give it up and move on. But I will definitely be back and probably concentrate most of the day on this series of open caches.

The toughest of the day, totally grown in and invisible, had to resort to iphone again for hint, not even 3g here so it took an age to download info, found it in the end, much more rewarding than the normal caching around here, thankyou again..

I too, spent far too long at this one. Reading the hint was my downfall though and because I didn't have my sighting compass with me today I tried to use the one built into my GPSr. While it isn't totally useless, it did put me a little way from where the cache turned out to be and it was only after I decided that I would have to pass this one by that I found the cache.
I was actually walking away when I decided to have one last try using the coords alone and sure enough, I was taken right to the cache! Moral...Trust the GPS!

My run of quick caches ended here, and I once more took a long time to find a Brentorboxer cache. I'm getting used to taking my bearings to confirm the GPS position, but my compass really isn't good enough to achieve great accuracy using this method.
Thanks for the cache,
Rgds, Andy
