Oh no, a DNF for me. I moved my backpack several times, I moved the dogs about. But just couldn't find it. The spoiler photo didn't help in the tall green about. Ah, never mind, one for the future.

I arrived here just after 12:30 only to find another walker there. He was as surprised to see me as I was to see him!

He departed after a quick chat and I was left alone again to search for the cache.

I took the opportunity to have a bit of lunch, then spotted a newt in a nearby pool just as I was leaving.

Bit soggy underfoot on approach to this one. GPS seemed to be in a bit of a muddle. Once found we had a quick stop for lunch

I was a little underwhelmed by Cranmere Pool......there was no pool! Cache was of course up to standard. TFTC

Today was the Dartmoor 365 event at Cranmere pool. My first proper visit since rushing out for a FTF in darkness. Today I arrived at the designated parking spot in slight darkness as I waited for Mr Arooga, Mr NSCR and Mr GeoOldham.

After catching up with everyone and finding the nearby GS cache myself, Devorandaschund and NSCR headed over to here.  Thae cache was quickly found and the bonus info duly noted.

I almost gave up here. Having completed the GC Virtual at the letterbox I hopped over the pool to spend ages seeking the GC cache where I placed my foot in the same hole as Amberel Andy. With one wet foot and a GPS that was pointing in different directions to my compass it wasn't looking hopeful.

My plan B was to use the distance from the GPS and direction from the compass which worked well enough to guide me to the cache. I am glad I spent the extra time on this one because that means I never have to visit Cranmere Pool again! TFTC

Fortunately an easy find (by hubby as per the norm) at GZ.

Last time we came here he had saif he wouldn’t be sorry if he never came again.

However, the conditions underfoot are much improved, we are only carrying daysacks and not camping gear,  and its been an enjoyable walk so far across the normally quite difficult terrain.

Only a short hop across a dry "pool" to the virtual from here:)

I wasn't initially hopeful about getting this one, as the website wasn't working for me this morning and I couldn't access the coordinates. However I happened to be in contact with the CO while at the Pool, and he was able to find me the coordinates. Thanks Dave! A little bit of bog-dodging required to get here from the letterbox but soon got there and found the nice big cache. [:D] TFTC

The third Open cache of the day, found quickly, 6.5 miles into my 14 mile walkabout on the northern moor.

Took the opportunity to sign the visitor's book in the Cranmere Pool letterbox before heading off towards Great Kneeset.

A very wet walk from the east, the pool seems to be about 2 miles across now!!! But very pleased to find this one as it was one of the main targets for the day.

Went across and stamped the letterbox OK, then tried to find the Groundspeak cache here, in which we were singularly unsuccessful!

Late in the day now, so from here we headed straight north to the Ockerton Peat pass caches, instead of our original itinerary to the west.

An Amberel TOP CACHE http://www.amberel.com/topcache.htm , a good size box, clean and dry, well stocked and in an iconic location, it ticks all the boxes Smile. And spent one of my precious recommendation points on this one too Cool.

Thanks for the cache,

Rgds, Andy

Thanks for setting this challenge and cache at this location, I simply cannot explain how perfect the walking conditions are today, making good time on a circuit over pretty rough terrain, may even take in some unplanned caches later, many thanks. Perfect blue sky and dry feet.

Thanks, second cache today, bit easier walking from Taw Head than my first bit of the trip.  Last time I came to Cranmere, didnt see anything as it was low cloud, so it was nice today to see an overgrown Cranmere Pool.

FTF Surprised how easy this one was to find. Very wet here especially the walk over from Taw Head. Time for lunch before the walk back to Hart Tor. TFTC
