I was out and about picking up a few caches on the moors. I had targeted a few which were just a short walk and added a few to my list throughout the day. This fell into the latter pile. Due to this I hadn't downloaded the cache to my phone. C.geo had downloaded its location, but nothing else. Fortunately this was enough for me to be able to locate the cache.

All info recorded.

A steep little climb up to this one, having mostly been going downhill for the past couple of miles I needed to take a breath and admire the view...

The stepping stones were very easy and had a good 10-12 inches of dry above the water today, testiment to how little rain there's been this spring.

GPS was very accurate and it took me a few minutes of poking likely places before I disturbed some soil which 'thunked' down in under a rock in a very plasticky way, and sure enough a closer look showed me the cache which had slipped down further than I imagine was originally placed. A little digging and I had it in my hand, none the worse for its travels. A nice spot for a cache and thanks for placing it.

I had really been looking forward to a visit to search for this one..  not so keen once I reached GZ.. My goodness what a lot of places to search.. took a good long while before the cache was uncovered - really well hidden / buried. Getting there slowly! Stunning location..tftc

Well this one was not to be, a pity as it took a lot of courage for me to cross the stepping stones.  Definitely a no no for the other half.  Spent a while looking but quite honestly for something small it could be anywhere.  Gave up as I felt D would be rather worries if I was there any longer.  The spoiler was not of any help, and the hint was not either, because that covered quite a large area if you take that around the tree. Probably will give this one a miss, because of the stepping stones and the area that the cache is hidden in.

The location is a little different to many of the others in the series.

Despite the accurate hint, this one is well hidden and so still took me quite a while to find.

Thanks for the cache,

Rgds, Andy

After parking up we make a short walk to the stepping stones and carefully negotiate those followed by a shortish walk and possibly the longest search of the day for the cache (not that it was that long in reality), on the way back to the stepping stones we meet a family (not sure they were cachers) and their very friendly, exceptionally wet springer spaniel, after the briefest of chats we were on our way to the next cache.

Out with 1 half of Ping68, this was the lengthiest one to find,

maybe 4mins or so, then hooray we find it!

met a family of muggles (we think) and a dog on way back down.

Having made our way precariously across the stepping stones we made our way over to this cache and thought that the hint would lead us straight to the hide but we did have to hunt around for a few minutes until the one and only suitable hiding place revealed itself and we found the container. Saw that we were not the first here so signed the logbook and headed back tomthe car in the carpark. TFTC

Found in the company of The Caching Corgis and Evil Beagles.  Had made the decision yesterday that as the weather was looking favourable - a rarity for a Dartmoor Dave New Year's Event [:)] - that we would have a go at doing the new series of caches when they were released.  Mrs W had been working the previous evening and also first thing this morning and the weather was still looking good - until we set out to leave then the rain started - never mind - should clear up soon - although maybe we'll just swing past home and pick up some waterproofs and wellies in case.....

Our second opencache of the day - indeed our second opencache ever.  Another pleasant of slightly damp stroll out to this one.  Noted down the necessary information.

Joint FTF with heartradio and Balrogslayer's mum

After making the decision to chase the FTFs on the New Years challenge we set an early morning rendezvous, this and the nearby geocache were the first stops of the day, for the record this is the first time I have crossed a set of Dartmoor stepping stones so that was a rude awakening today! A brisk walk up the hill to this one, trailing in the wake of my younger counterpart who definitely has another gear for first to find hunting! He spotted this one while I was searching just a metre or two away. Many thanks.

FTF

First day of the New Year (Happy New Year to log readers at home and all that!) and it now seems to be tradition that I come out on to the moor, get soaking wet and then have a cream tea. This year my caching buddies and I decided to tackle the New Years Day Challenge, this year concerning rivers. In total we found 8 of 10 caches (5 geocaches and 3 opencaches), and 4 of those were FTFs.

My first ever opencache log - exciting! I wish that the geocaching website could have this level of text editing options! Anyway, AO and I headed over to this one after the nearby geocache, with BM over on the other side. A steep climb up the hill, but a quick find for me when up there. Bonus information noted and log signed, I now need to figure out this rating system! And I like the 'time' feature!
