The Mendip Centurion's Way
Mendip Hills range of hills, around 25 mi (40 km) long, across North Somerset, SW England, extending SE from the vicinity of Hutton to the Frome valley. Primarily limestone, the hills have numerous caves (Wookey Hole, Cheddar Caves), some of which show signs of prehistoric occupation.
A picture of Cheddar Gorge -
In the hills are ruins of Roman lead mines, an amphitheater, and a Roman road which ran across the Mendips to Old Sarum and the south coast ports. The gorges near Cheddar are particularly notable.
Along the route of the Roman road, you will find Stockhill Woods. The main entrance to the woods ( located at N51 15.581 W002 38.877 ) has parking and a picnic site.
But our interest lies among the numerous tracks and footpaths of the woods where the cache, a click-n-lock style box of about one litre, is hidden - about 1km from the picnic site.
This cache was until recently a TC.com cache, the logbook still reflects this, and will need replacing with an OC.org.uk logbook.
