As the name suggests, Castle Park is located upon the remains of Bristol Castle; a Norman Castle built for the Defence of Bristol.
The castle was demolished in 1656, with most of the stone being used to create the road bed of the aptly named Castle Street. Following the castle’s removal, the area became used for trade and by the 19th century it became the main shopping district of the city.
All this changed, however, on the night of the 24 November 1941 when the entire area that is now Castle Park was destroyed in an Air Raid that left the area flattened and St Peter’s Church a burnt out husk. Following the end of the war, the ruins were used for a number of nuclear warfare simulations, including Operation Medusa, before the City Council decided to redevelop the area as park land.
The cache is a small magnet container capable of holding small trade items.
Note: The cache is not down by the waterside, but care should still be taken if you have small children with you.
Congratulations to Amberel on the FTF.
