Description EN

A virtual cache taking you to a few points of interest on Portland Bill, at the southern end of the Isle of Portland.

To find the cache you will need to visit the following locations and collect some information.

When you have all the letters needed, unscramble them into a word, which is your logging password. Also, a photo of you or your GPS with the lighthouse would be appreciated, but is not compulsory.

Stage 1 - Lighthouse (N50 30.844 W002 27.371)

On the side of a small building at the south-east corner of the lighthouse complex, you will find a board about the greening of Portland Bill and about how the maritime vegetation has been eroded away by people walking.

Find a sentence that starts 'Plants such as ????? and ????? have begun to recolonise...' and take the first letter of the name of the first plant, and the first letter of the second word of the name of the second plant

Stage 2 - Daymark (N50 30.799 W002 27.399)

There is a four digit number on the daymark - you need the second letter of the first number, and the second letter of the second number if spelt out.

Stage 3 - Legacy Trail (N50 30.834 W002 27.448)

Affixed to a block of Portland stone is another noticeboard. Find the nature reserve with the picture of the heron - you need the first letter of its name. Also towards the top of the noticeboard you will see a picture of a wooden sign, just above the words 'Legacy Trail'. Take the third letter of the word within the sign

Stage 4 - Pulpit Rock (N50 30.858 W002 27.564)

Find a sensible route down on to the rocky platform - there are easier routes down that do not involve clambering over boulders. Please take care and do not attempt if the sea is very rough. Like the sign says, if you climb Pulpit Rock you do so at your own risk - you don't need to climb the rock in order to complete this stage. On the bottom of the rock are two plaques in memory of people. You need the one round the side slightly in memory of Lee. You need the seventh letter of the first word on the plaque, and the fifth letter of his second name.

Once you have all eight letters, unscramble them into a word. This is your logging password. A photo of you or your GPS at the lighthouse would also be appreciated but it's not compulsory.
