Out in this area today for many letterbox charity walks and, of course, the odd cache.
Here it helped to read pretty old logs. Then the cache was very fast in hand.
It is in brilliant conditions, all dry and pristine. Hard to believe it hasn't been found in 5 1/2 years. TFTC

No luck here on a dreary afternoon with rain on the way.
Didn't have access to the earliest logs, possibly the most helpful ones, so went away empty-handed.
Perhaps I'll have more luck next time?

We expected the strong NW wind today but had thought the weather be a bit drier than it actually was! We had spent a good half hour sipping coffee in the car before the rain showed signs of abating and we set off to find some caches around Great Mis.
After a quick lunch standing up in the shelter from the wind from Great Mis, we moved on to GZ to look for this cache. Unfortunately, the position was suffering the full blast of the Northerly wind and having read previous logs about the difficulty of finding it, and being unable to identify the hint item, we didn't spend too long looking here. Another day, perhaps.

I was keen to check on this cache today following the previous DNF, so suggested to ed-don at the nearby event that we take a look together. However, I couldn't remember the cache and did exactly what I previously had done, went to the correct spot to start with and then widened my search elsewhere. Fortunately ed-don read the previous logs and worked out where the cache had to be - and he was right. Very pleased to see another opencache still available after 9 years.

Found after an event cache on Great Mis Tor that was hosted on another site. Given that the latest DNF was attending the event I decided to team up with Dartmoor Dave to see whether we could do any better. Our initial searches proved fruitless and it was only after using every trick up a cachers sleeve including previous logs, hints etc that we managed to find the extremely well concealed container.
Future finders, trust your GPS because it is right at the posted coordinates. TFTC and a recommendation

Oh how very unfortunate, I appear to be First to DNF. Had a good look for this one but no luck - found what was very clearly a letterbox, but no cache sadly.

Collecting a few caches in the area today and this was the next on our route. Soon found and logged. Fine views out to the North today even as far as Fur Tor !

Wow, first to find after nearly 4 years. And I came very close indeed to not finding it at all.
There were lots of stones that almost, but didn't quite, fit the hint. After a prolonged search I was really just trying a few final things. I poked my walking stick under a stone and it entered a void - and about 3 feet in I heard the unmistakable rattle of a plastic box.
I pulled out the stick and had a look, but the hole was only about an inch diameter, no way for a cache to get there. I worked out where the end of the pole must be, and it was only a few inches from the edge of the stone - but the grass was growing up tight and flush against the side of the stone.
Gently easing away the grass, I eventually created a small gap, and there was the cache. Quite a bit more easing was needed before I could get it out. What a prize to have won .
As with all SpannerMan caches, there was a swap item inside, a little wire puzzle, and even though I rarely trade I love to see this, it makes all the difference to a cache for me. It was all spotlessly clean and dry, and in excellent condition. Signed the log, left the wire puzzle there and replaced the cache. I left a small stone against the opening to stop the grass growing up in the same spot again, so it should be easier for the next finder.
Thanks for the cache, quite the hardest of the holiday to have found.
Rgds, Andy
