I have really enjoyed my recent Amberel caches, so when I had a look at this one, it seemed that it would be something a little out of the ordinary, and by now knowing the attention these caches receive from the CO, I was sure I wouldn't be disappointed.
When I first attempted this, I had a couple of technical problems that prevented me from really making much headway.
I emailed Amberel with details of what had happened, and he very graciously offered to join me for a walk around to see if we could resolve the problems I'd encountered (remember there are very many technical variables involved in this) and we agreed a suitable time this morning.
Well, I hit my first glitch, my iPhone wouldn't connect to the web site at all, so Amberel very kindly offered me the use of a nice, shiny new iPhone 6
Now with the technical issue set aside, we started the quest sharing some very pleasant and informative conversation as we walked, and Amberel very kindly not leading me, just letting me follow the gameplay.
This has got to be the most fun I have had on a cache since I started back in March this year
I'd half expected a wherigo type experience, but this is SOO much more - it is very immersive and far more engaging.
At each of the stages, the information was well presented, 'though you need to try not to rush things to get the most out of this and to look carefully for the information required - thank-you for your patience when it took me a little longer than it should have to find the answers
I think this is the first time I've ever walked a route with the cache's CO, so I felt a little self conscious and tried to be a little more dignified than I might otherwise have been, at least until the episode with the skeletons ! If anyone remembers a particular scene from Porterhouse Blue with David Jason, a sharpened stick and some "inflated" objects - then this is what I must nearly have resembled - I am VERY glad that there weren't any other people around
Unfortunately, two of the villagers were slain, but ultimately the skeletons were defeated and we were on to the next stage...
The rest of the quest was thankfully without incident, and at last we approached the grail I'd been seeking.
That's when, very unfortunately, we discovered that dark forces had spirited it away
I truly hope that Amberel can reinstate this cache as it's a real pleasure to go for, something quite different in my experience - it is such a shame that it has gone missing twice already with so few finds..
My sincerest thanks to Amberel for all of his hard work creating this work of art, and for accompanying me around the circuit today.
One final comment on the technical glitch I experienced with my iPhone on this one today, a power off/on seemed to resolve the issue (after we'd finished)
Many, many thanks Amberel.
