A Bank Holiday with a fine weather forecast seemed the ideal opportunity to follow up on my previous Note. Unfortunately I couldn’t persuade my sons along, so that meant Mrs A also stayed at home as the responsible adult. Meanwhile, the irresponsible adult set forth with a packed lunch and his sights set on a double Opencache / Terracache FTF!
As I made my way through lovely Springtime woodland, bluebells caught my eye and wild garlic my nose. It was lovely and quiet, apart from the odd pheasant that I spooked. Amongst the woodland undergrowth, however, were distinct paths from decades ago. The whole area was really interesting. It has a quite similar history to a place I love to wander around nearer home, although this area is more wooded.
I found a particularly interesting location and naturally had a good exploration there, and took a few photos. Then I left and returned to the job in hand, looking at my GPSr. I was close to my estimated GZ, but for some reason I had a certain type of location in mind for GZ, and that was nowhere to be seen, even when I carefully scanned through the sprouting tree foliage. Then it dawned on me that I might have just been at GZ, so I returned and of course I found the cache. I had just spent a good ten minutes at GZ without even noticing!
I happened to be FTF, but that’s not point. This is a really interesting area and I spent a while exploring further (eventually finding the place I mistakenly thought would be GZ - also well worth visiting).
