Today was Day 11, the last day, of my walk along the Kennet & Avon from Reading to Avonmouth, this time from Bristol to Avonmouth. I was hoping that this stage would be a more pleasant walk than last week's, when I had to trudge through semi-derelict industrial areas and got stuck in deep mud on a unmaintained public right of way and waymarked route.

Actually, today could only be better than last week and, apart from getting soaked and frozen by a hailstorm while I was crossing the Avonmouth bridge and being stuck on a train for thirty minutes at failed points near Clifton Down on what Bristol laughingly calls a public transport system, so it was.

I took my time studying the history of Bristol as I walked through the port, followed a lovely path hemmed in by river and former railway under the Clifton bridge, and crossed a bridge in the sky which was unusual and uncomfortable in equal measure. All in all, walking the Kennet & Avon has been a very enjoyable experience. My recommendation to anyone following in my footsteps is to either finish at Bath, where the canal does, or at least leave out the 5km east of Bristol city centre.

This isn't the sort of shot tower I'd expected: I doubt there's been much shot produced in that monstrous carbuncle. The tall buildings make GPS readings very variable and I looked for some time here, using a mirror to help with the nooks and crannies but without success. After three consecutive DNFs perhaps the owner should check that the cache is still there.
