5725 2020-10-11 23:43 Amberel (user activity610) - Found it

After climbing several trees in the area, SimonDaynaFrank, AB119 and myself finished the day here.

Access to the area was not the easiest or most elegant for a not very skinny 72 year old, but we were all soon ready. We chose the large tree as an anchor, and as SDF had done most of the hard work today, I went first on this one.

Unfortunately I had left my head torch in the car, and my hand held torch dangling from my harness pointed only downwards ;-)

I got down to the first level and searched, but saw nothing. Only then did I realise there was a second level, so I clipped back onto the rope and descended again. This time a search did reveal the cache, but merely highlighted that it might not be so easy to get to as I'd hoped ;-)

Having come this far, though, I was going to find a way, and I did - though my torch shining below me and not upwards proved to be a not inconsiderable handicap at this point.

SDF then went down, and somewhat alarmed me by free climbing back to the surface! He then went down a second time alongside AB119.

By this time I had acquired a Polish friend who was very interested in what we were doing, and impressed that a very young lady was tackling it instead of sitting at home watching TV. A couple of horse riders also stopped and said hello, but everyone was friendly and interested, and not at all alarmed as it was clear we were well equipped and competent.

Thanks for something a bit different,

Rgds, Andy
