After 11 years unfound, it was clear to me that this cache would never be found again, so I went to retrieve it. The location had changed beyond recognition and where the fallen tree had been there was now a fairly large tree that had probably been an insignificant sapling when I placed the cache. The chalky mound that had been created when the tree fell was still there but well eroded and uniform in appearance. There were no depressions in the mound let alone the hole for the cache. I don't doubt that the cache lies there buried but I didn't anticipate this by bringing a spade and fork, so the cache will remain entombed.
