Description EN

Caesar's Camp is an Iron Age hill fort, built about 600BC. It is enclosed by a huge, oak leaf shaped ditch and embankment about a mile in length.

The cache is placed outside the fence, by a fallen tree. It replaces a cache that was hidden in the tree before it fell down, and for all I know may still be there but underneath several tons of wood. As it is a completely new cache in a new hiding place, albeit only a couple of metres away, I decided to issue it as a new cache.

It is a small to regular size, black taped, clip top box holding a log book, pencil and some exchange items.

To find out more about the fort, there is a noticeboard by the gate at N51 22.913 W000 45.523. If you take the path north, there is more information in the centre of the fort.

Parking is available to the East or West of the Camp. To the east is a Pay and Display car park at the Lookout Centre, N51 23.306 W000 44.392, which costs £2 for 4 hours and can get congested at peak times. To the west there is parking at N51 22.950 W000 46.385.

Near the Lookout Centre parking there is a cafe and toilets, a children's playground, and a Go Ape circuit.

Cycling is permitted on hard tracks and a permit is no longer required. Indeed, it is a mountain bikers delight, although there is little gradient there are tracks through the forest with bumps and banked turns.
