---(2017-11-23 08:41:24---(DNF)---
Today was Day 11, the last day, of my walk along the Kennet & Avon from Reading to Avonmouth, this time from Bristol to Avonmouth. I was hoping that this stage would be a more pleasant walk than last week's, when I had to trudge through semi-derelict industrial areas and got stuck in deep mud on a unmaintained public right of way and waymarked route.

Actually, today could only be better than last week and, apart from getting soaked and frozen by a hailstorm while I was crossing the Avonmouth bridge and being stuck on a train for thirty minutes at failed points near Clifton Down on what Bristol laughingly calls a public transport system, so it was.

I took my time studying the history of Bristol as I walked through the port, followed a lovely path hemmed in by river and former railway under the Clifton bridge, and crossed a bridge in the sky which was unusual and uncomfortable in equal measure. All in all, walking the Kennet & Avon has been a very enjoyable experience. My recommendation to anyone following in my footsteps is to either finish at Bath, where the canal does, or at least leave out the 5km east of Bristol city centre.

This isn't the sort of shot tower I'd expected: I doubt there's been much shot produced in that monstrous carbuncle. The tall buildings make GPS readings very variable and I looked for some time here, using a mirror to help with the nooks and crannies but without success. After three consecutive DNFs perhaps the owner should check that the cache is still there.

A quiet evening for a search. Not too many people around.
There were a couple of possible hiding places, and I searched them as well as I could, but without success. I think I need bendier arms, or maybe a mirror on a stick...

This one was a DNF for me. I spent the main part of the remainder of my time looking for this one. A lot quieter muggle wise than the main streets, but I did have stop and wait a few times for people to walk by, plus a couple of tour boats loaded with people too.

I had a good look, and a good feel around, but unfortunately I didn't lay my fingers on it. Thank you for the interesting history and taking me to this spot though.

From here I headed back to the Hippodrome where I still had a few minutes spare before the family came out of the show, and so had a cheeky half in the pub next to it. Once they were out we went around to the stage door where we meet Warwick Davis and my daughter had photo taken with him. So with them happy, and me too for finding a few caches, we headed back to Ciren happy.

Thank you for placing these OC caches.

After reading the logs I had all sorts of visions on how I would retrieve the cache, however it turned out to be very quick and simple once the GPS settled. Thankyou

This cache doesn't get found often! Thought it was due it's annual visit as I had an 1hr and half to kill before work. Certainly one of the more tricky extractions I've had to do but got a gap just long enough after managing to eye it!

I've never taken the time to admire the Shot Tower before, it's in a rather awkward place where it's screened out by other buildings for most of the city! Lovely morning to appreciate it! Now to try put it back.....

First find for over 14 months. I felt abit overlooked but just grabbed it. A good sized cache for the city centre. I hope that I tucked it away well enough- i was oconcentrating more on not droping it. Thanks for our 4th opencache

My 200th OpenCache Laughing Laughing Laughing.

I had been in South Wales for the Groundspeak Pen Y Fan event, the toughest event I have ever been on, by a very big margin. I stayed overnight in Abergavenny, and today made my way back in a fairly leisurely fashion, picking up OpenCaches where I could.

This one was outstanding from a previous visit. That time I had looked at the wrong level, but today I knew better and it was a quick find Smile.

Sunday is a much better day to look for this cache than the weekday on which I visited last time. Not only is parking easier, but so is reaching the cache without being observed. And a cold winter's Sunday is better than ever, because this can be a very public place.

The cache setter must be a very small or very flexible person, as I found it very hard to maneuver the cache from its hiding place. I had to lie full length on my side and twist my arm to a quite un-natural angle. Even then it was tricky to get a grip on the cache, and it took me several seconds. With offices right beside the cache location and just over the water, it's clear why Sunday is a good idea Laughing.

Even so, while you can check the coast is clear before lying down, it's not possible to look round the corners to see if anyone is coming, and while I was easing the cache from its hiding place, a couple walked round the corner and gave me a most old fashioned look!

But never mind, the deed is done and I now have the smiley for cache #200 Laughing.

Thanks for the cache,

Rgds, Andy

My first OpenCaching find, though I have a few more under my belt from GS.com. A lovely day and a trip into Bristol found me here with The Beast. Easyish find using the clue but I felt more than a little awkward groping around in full view of the offices both sides of the river.Embarassed I chose to just go for it rather than act all nonchelant and shifty so hope I wasn't seen. Perhaps a day glow jacket would have given the illusion of being official. It's a little awkward retreiving and replacing it without dropping it but I managed, though I wouldn't mid betting that one day it sets sail Wink. LNTN and stamped/dated log.

Many thanks for this cache.Laughing

SmileFTF Smile@08:50. Had to wait a while for the work muggles to enter their buildings and then in a quiet moment got the cache. It has it's advantages being small sometimes! TN left a frog. TFTC

Thanks for looking - just too good for me Laughing . If I come to Bristol again I may ask for a small extra cluette Wink, as this looked to be the best of the Bristol caches.

Oh dear, my second Bristol OpenCache this morning, and my second DNF!

My search at the first one may have been a little lacklustre, but I gave this one a fair crack. It took me a while to recognise this modern building as being a shot tower - the one near Crane Park in Hanworth is very different:). Once I had sorted myself out I decided there were really only 2 candidates for the hiding place, but I searched for some time without success so I guess there must be 3:).

This was a shame, as I think otherwise this might have been my favourite of the Bristol OpenCaches.

Rgds, Andy
